This google search brings people to my website on a daily basis.
- “Do job boards work?”
Yes, job boards still work. I’ve said this 100 times. But you should work harder and increase your chances of finding a job by being strategic.
- Does your university have a job board? How about your professional association? Go there first.
- Do you read an industry publication that also publishes jobs? Check out that site!
- Then you can use the major job boards like CareerBuilder and Monster. Try Indeed, Simply Hired and LinkUp. Don’t forget LinkedIn.
Also, never apply to a job through a job board. Always apply from a company’s website. There’s a lot of fraud out there. Make sure a job is a job and not a scam.
And remember that the most effective way to get a job is through a referral. If you see a great job online, think about your network. Who do you know who works for the company? Who does your network know? Are you connected to anyone on LinkedIn?
But don’t stop using job boards. It is a reliable and valid way to find work — even in 2013.
