New HR Benefit: Leap Day is a Holiday

In anticipation of Leap Day, I wonder how many of you feel ripped off because a Leap Year is just another way for the vast, right-wing conspiracy to make you work an extra day in 2008 without getting paid?

Thirty days hath September,
April, June and November;
All the rest have thirty-one
Save February, she alone
Hath eight days and a score
Til leap year gives her one day more.

I believe that any HR professional worth her weight in salt would demand that February 29th be considered a paid holiday. It’s one more day, dudes. One more day of productivity, internet surfing, and office politics. You give them your blood, sweat & tears for 365 days/year. Can’t your company take one for the team and give you the day off?

[Additional HR fact: February 29 is also known as bissextile day. I think that sounds very inclusive & diverse, so I further advocate that HR professionals lobby on behalf of their colleagues for the day off on February 29th.]
