Okay, tell me what you would have done.
It was 7:15 AM. There was a woman ordering a grande vanilla soy latte and a blueberry muffin. While on her cell phone. And she fumbled for her money. And fumbled. And fumbled. And she wouldn’t pause the conversation to find her cash.
So I asked, “Do you need some help?”
And the barista took a step back. He thought we were going to throw down. Yeah. Okay. Me in my yoga pants. The woman in a pharma rep name tag and sensible black pants.
She said, “No.”
This woman? She was so. unbelievably. offended.
(I heard her tell her friend on the phone.)
So I stood closer until she paid.
Yes, I was that person. Passive-aggressive.
Does this make me a bad person?
And what would you have done?
I really think companies should refuse to serve customers who are on the phone. I know, I know. Good luck enforcing that one. But I’d like to see them try.
