I would love to tell you to choose a style of resume that best highlights your work history and tells your story. Unfortunately, that’s bad advice.
Make your life easier. Submit a chronological resume.
- HR professionals and recruiters have been trained to read chronological resumes. Anything else takes more time and could disqualify you for consideration.

Resume systems don’t appreciate the nuanced and narrative-driven style of a functional resume. And neither do recruiters. When applying online, upload a chronological resume and make your life easier.
One more thing. If you want to highlight your experience and target a new industry, write a great email message or cover letter. And drop a name.
